Juan A Vigil
Jul 23, 1938 — Aug 14, 2026
Juan A. Vigil
July 23, 1938 – August 14, 2026
Heaven gained a bright light as Juan (John) Vigil departed this world unexpectedly on August 14, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born in Terrero, New Mexico to the late Agapito and Lorencita (Ruiz) Vigil. He was preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers.
John or Johnny, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, laughter and unwavering faith in God.
He was a self-employed master builder and took great pride in his craft which include many reminders for his family to gaze upon (especially churches) throughout Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico. He was in high demand due to his strong work ethic and authentic craftsmanship which established his stellar reputation.
Outside of his work, John found joy in family and music. He was a talented guitar player and always started his day whistling. Those who knew him will remember him for his twinkling green eyes and always telling a joke to the delight of family, friends and strangers. He loved good food and was happiest with a sweet treat (or two or three). He loved dancing and often had to be the dancing partner for all the ladies in our family.
In his later life, he enjoyed watching the Cowboys and Atlanta Braves, going to the movies, attending his son’s church, and going to grandchildren’s baseball and football games. He was a loyal fan of St. Michael’s high school sports.
He was a calming steady strength, a consistent presence and a mentor to many. We are broken-hearted but we know he is walking with Jesus on streets of gold.
John is survived by the love of his life, Selbinia (Sylvia). Children: Katherine, John and Diana (Diz), Elisa and Trinkie Starr. Nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and sister Celina (Jr.) Vargas. He is also survived by many Godchildren and a large extended family.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Christian Life Church at 11:00 am, 121 Siringo Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.
