Christoval Barela

Christoval “Chris” Barela, 75, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at his home in Westminster, Colorado.

He was born on May 23, 1951, in Lama, New Mexico, the son of Melisendro M. Barela and Emma Barela.

Chris spent his younger years as a factory worker and underground miner. He later retired from Walmart as a commercial truck driver.

Chris loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles, camping, fishing, and working on his classic vehicles.

Chris is survived by his children, Kristie Borquez, Mistie Barela, his son Eli Rivera, and daughter-in-law, Jennie Rivera, of Rock Springs, Wyoming.

 His grandchildren, Kandace Borquez, AJ Borquez, Ryan Borquez, and EJ Rivera; his great-grandchildren, Luca and Remi Borquez.

Sister, Nikki Vermeulen, brothers, Ross Garza, Joseph “Joe” Cruz and several nieces and nephews.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Melisendro M. Barela and Emma Barela; his sister, Lucy Garcia; his brother-in-law, Johnny Garcia and brother Tony.

Private cremation has taken place. A celebration of Chris’s life will be held at a later date
