Joe Giron
Mar 12, 1935 — Sep 1, 2018
Joe Giron, loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, born March 12, 1935, Trinidad, CO
Transitioned to the next chapter of his journey on September 1, 2018 in Torres, CO as the result of an auto accident, at the age of 83. He attended Trinidad public schools. Joe built his life in Denver where he was employed at Martin Marietta, Denver Mint and Denver Arsenal.
His lifework was devoted to assisting people with their housing needs. Joe was the co-founder of Brothers Redevelopment where he worked for 30 plus years until his retirement in October 2004. This housing program brought together varied supporters from every walk of life to assist thousands of under-served homeowners throughout the state with home rehabilitation, including the annual statewide Paint-a-thon. One outstanding fund-raiser certainly demonstrated the meaning of "where the rubber meets the road". The challenge was to walk across the state 800 miles, come rain or shine, taking pledges for each mile walked. This event not only raised needed funds but showed his sincere commitment to his life's calling of service to others as he and many supporters walked those miles.
Joe officiated weddings, delivered eulogies and spoke blessings at family gatherings.
He was a loyal member of Elk's Club Westminster 2227. Joe enjoyed golf, tennis and bowling, cooking, dancing and Spanish music and working on family genealogy. He was an avid Bronco, Rockies and Avs enthusiast. But he held a special love for hockey as three grandsons are hockey players.
Joe became a world traveler having visited the Great Wall of China, Turkey, Alaska and most recently Thailand where he was honored to ride an elephant. He had a passion for learning and read voraciously. One of his true gifts was that of storytelling. He had an endless repertoire of jokes and humorous life lessons and he thoroughly enjoyed the telling!
His intelligence, energy, innate kindness, and deep fund of knowledge are valuable in themselves, but those who love him find these gifts priceless.
Joe was preceded in death by parents, Joe and Luisa Giron; sister, Mary Giron; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Duby Lopez; brothers-in-law, John R. Lopez, Ron Fresquez, Frank Martinez, Fred Hahn, Eloy Castillo, Romaldo Bueno and Chris Avila.
