Jose Evaristo Martinez Aka Uncle Lee

Jan 16, 1925 — Jun 25, 2015

Jose Evaristo Martinez, also known by many as "Lee", age 90 years, went to be with the Lord on June 25, 2015 at Christopher House, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. He is preceded in departure from life on earth by his parents, Delfino Martinez and Dulcinea (Nea) Arellano, sisters Idela Galvez, and Rufina Cisneros, stepsister, Elena Arellano Watson, brothers Carlos Martinez and Arcenio Martinez, Aaron Martinez, and Juan Nepomucenomo and several beloved nieces and nephews. He is survived by daughters, Doris Judy Segura and Carol Segura (Daniel Gonzales) of Rocky Ford, Colorado, and son, Robert Segura of Pueblo West, Colorado, grandchildren Karen, Jose, German, Karl, Abel, Nick, Ryan and Jacob and fourteen great grandchildren, older brother Levi Martinez (Svetlana) of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, younger brother, Delfino Martinez (Loretta) of Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico, and younger sister, Lloyda Moy of Sacramento, California, good friend, Rachel Ogaz and sister in law, Clotilda "Tillie" Martinez and several generations of nieces and nephews who called him "Uncle Lee" (Tio Lee). During World War II he worked for a ship builder who provided ships essential to the war effort for the U. S. Government. After that he engaged in many endeavors including several stints at farming. In 1963 he moved to Pueblo, Colorado where he lived the rest of his life at 1408 E. 19th Street, Pueblo, Colorado. He was employed at Pueblo Army Depot. His mother and stepfather Francisco Arellano lived with him, taking very good care of them. His stepfather passed away in June 1967, and Evaristo continued to take care of his mother until the end of her life at age 98.5 years in December 1988. Thereafter during his retirement years, Evaristo participated in activities at Pueblo Senior Resource Development Agency which he considered his second home. Whenever Evaristo needed help, his neighbors, Arthur "Arturo" Sisneros, his nephew and John Perdue, attended to his every need. The entire family is extremely grateful for having had such dedication to his mother and in turn the family is extremely grateful for the same dedication provided by "Art" and John to Uncle Lee. "We have been created for greater things, to love and to be loved." Mother Teresa of Calcutta (Holy card found by Arthur Sisneros in the home of Jose Evaristo Martinez.)
