Donna Mae Herron

Donna Mae Herron, born Donna Mae Root, passed away on September 3, 2026, at the age of 84, in Mountain Home, Idaho, in her daughter’s home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on February 13, 1942, in Grand Island, Nebraska, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, deep community involvement, and a lasting love for the outdoors.

Donna graduated from high school in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She later moved to Chadron State College while her husband completed his Bachelor of Science degree, beginning the next chapter of a life that would be rooted in partnership, family, and hard work. They made a  home in Mountain Home, Idaho, beginning in 1962, and over the years became a familiar and valued part of the community she loved.

For 35 years, Donna was active in the community as an independent Allstate business owner. She also took part in Chamber of Commerce activities and served on committees focused on planting trees and beautifying Mountain Home. Her community-minded spirit was reflected in the way she gave her time and energy to making her town a better and more welcoming place.

Donna loved the outdoors and found joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. She and her husband built a cabin together along with her son Kirk so they could all spend weekends outside, making memories in the setting she loved best. She enjoyed scrapbooking, treasured vacations with family and friends, and faithfully kept one or two small dogs in her home. A huge animal and dog lover, she brought warmth and tenderness not only to the people around her, but also to the pets she adored.

She was also known for her friendships she maintained over the years. Donna played bridge with friends and belonged to two bridge clubs, enjoying the companionship and fun the game brought into her life until arthritis in her hands prevented her from continuing. She will be remembered as active and community-minded, and as a helpful and supportive presence in the lives of her children.

Above all, Donna’s life was centered on family. She is survived by her daughter, Kevra “Kim” Kubala, and son-in-law, Barry Kubala; her son, Kelly “Kirk” Herron; and her son, Neal Catalano. She also leaves behind her sister, Helen Herhahn, as well as her close family friend and caregiver of the past four years, Dana Murphy, whose care and companionship meant so much.

Her love continues through her five grandchildren, Cody Kubala and his son; Braydan Kubala; Matthew Kubala; Kristy Harvel and her two children; and Benjamin Callison and his three children. The generations she leaves behind are part of the enduring legacy of love, support, and care that she gave so freely throughout her life.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Richard “Dick” Herron; her father, Harold P. Root; her mother, Evelyn Truax Root; her two sisters, Bonnie Doberstein and Barbara Reynolds; and her two brothers, Donald and Ike Root.

Donna Mae Herron will be remembered with love for her strength, her kindness, her loyalty to family and friends, and the many ways she helped shape the community around her. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her.

A short graveside service will be held at the Mountain Home Cemetery on September 18th at 2:00 pm.  Following the service, family and friends are welcome to attend a food and drink "Celebration of Life" from 3:00 - 7:00 pm at the Elks Lodge #2276 located at 325 S 3rd West in Mountain Home, Idaho.
