Jan David Anderson

Jan David Anderson of Winter Park, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 22 at the age of 80. He was born on February 16, 1946 to Edwin J. Anderson and Eva C. Fangboner in Pontiac MI. He was a multisport athlete who played baseball, basketball, wrestling and football. Initially, Jan’s mom would not allow him to play football due to her concerns about injuries, so they reached a compromise and he became an accomplished punter. After graduating from Pontiac Central High School in 1964, he attended UCLA and Michigan State University. After college he worked as a Contractor for many years in Michigan, Louisiana, Florida and Alaska, eventually retiring from the Orlando School District in 2009.

After a previous marriage, he met his wife Martha Jasper in Winter Park, Florida and after many years together they were married in 1994 at the Silver Bells Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. After Jan’s retirement in Orlando, they moved to Texas and then Anchorage, Alaska to be with his step-daughter and grandkids. Jan went back to work again and retired from the Anchorage School district in 2013. They then moved back to Winter Park to enjoy their retirement.

Jan was an avid outdoorsman who loved boating, hiking, fishing, bird hunting and anything that got him outside.  Jan enjoyed many hobbies but he was always working with his hands and building things around the property. As a budding artist, one of his favorite activities was garage sale hunting for an old wooden trunk, table or paddle; he would fix it up, paint a fish on it, and then sell it again! They especially loved traveling and cruising whenever possible. He loved his two grandsons and would spend time with them fishing, practicing sports and going to their school events. He was known for his smile and his willingness to make people happy.  Jan is predeceased by his parents and twin sister Jill, and is survived by his wife Martha, daughters Wendy and Sara, step-daughter Karen and husband Dave, grandsons David and Daniel, sister Karen Smith and husband Bill and sister Sandra Buck. We were very fortunate to have had him in our lives. Jan will be missed dearly but will live on forever in our hearts.
