Jo Lou Shopland, age 93, passed away peacefully on October 2nd, 2026, at a local hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Shopland was born on April 23, 1933, in Twin City, Georgia, to Joe Lawson and Maggie Chapman. At an early age, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and faithfully lived her life guided by her Christian faith.

Mrs. Shopland was a devoted member of Bible Baptist Church in Mountain Home, Idaho, where she was affectionately known as “Momma Jo.” She loved her church family and was a source of encouragement, kindness, and wisdom to all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Shopland; her three children, son Gregory McNear and his wife, Maria; daughter Gweneth McCoy and her husband, Mike; and daughter Michele Shopland; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Lucy Helmly.

Mrs. Shopland was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Lawson and Maggie Chapman; two sisters; and one brother.

Jo Lou found her greatest joy in serving the Lord and caring for her family. Her loving presence, steadfast faith, gentle spirit, and caring heart touched countless lives. She treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and extended family, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that will continue for generations.

Jo Lou also enjoyed cross-stitching and crocheting and was always creating handmade gifts for others. Today, many family members and friends are wrapped in the love she stitched into blankets, afghans, and treasured keepsakes. These gifts stand as a lasting reminder of her generous heart and the joy she found in giving to others.

The family takes comfort in knowing that she passed peacefully, surrounded by those she loved most. While she will be deeply missed, they rejoice in the assurance of her eternal home with her Savior.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Bible Baptist Church on American Legion Boulevard in Mountain Home, Idaho. Funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Michah Brackett, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at a later date at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.

All who knew and loved Mrs. Shopland are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of St. Luke’s Elmore for the compassionate care, kindness, and love they showed Mrs. Shopland during her final days, as well as the comfort and support they provided to her family. They also wish to thank everyone who visited, prayed for her, sent words of encouragement, or simply spent time by her side. Your love and support have been a great blessing and comfort.

Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and church family who were blessed to know and love her.
