Judith Ann Gibbons
Jul 23, 1940 — Aug 2, 2026
Judith Ann Newhouse Gibbons died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 2, 2026 from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease. We are so grateful that she is well and whole again!
Judy was born July 23,1940 in Glenns Ferry, Idaho to Lillian and Keith Newhouse. Judy grew up alongside her two brothers, Keith and Noel Newhouse. Throughout her childhood the family lived in Glenns Ferry, Boise, McCall, and Gooding, Idaho.
Judy graduated from Gooding High School in 1958 and went on to attend Link’s School of Business in Boise, Idaho. In 1959, she graduated from the Executive Secretarial course. Her strong work ethic and skills in shorthand, typing, and bookkeeping made her a valuable employee as a bookkeeper at The Town Shop in Mountain Home and as a secretary at Counseling Services of Mountain Home.
Judy met her future husband, Larry, when her family moved across the street from the Gibbons family in Gooding, Idaho. Larry Gibbons was the best friend of her older brother Keith, so they came to know each other well. Judy and Larry dated in high school and were married in August 1961. Their married life began in Moscow, Idaho where Larry attended the University of Idaho. His first teaching job brought them to Mountain Home in 1962, where they stayed and raised their family. Judy and Larry were blessed with eight children: Jay, Janet, Jeff, Jill, Jennifer, Jacci, Jana, and Justin.
Well known for her baking, Judy baked countless batches of brownies and chocolate chip cookies for sack lunches and to feed the neighbor children who hung out at her home. Her dining room table always had multiple leaves to accommodate the family and extra teenagers that gathered around it for Sunday dinners. Throughout the years Judy opened her home to family and friends who needed a place to live, and she lent a listening ear to those in need of advice, encouragement, and sympathy.
Judy enjoyed reading, spending time with family, taking drives in the mountains, and roasting hotdogs over a campfire. Much of her time and energy, though, was devoted to her large, growing family. She created a safe and happy home where her children and grandchildren frequently gathered.
Judy loved her Heavenly Father and her Savior Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and tirelessly served in many capacities. Her unwavering faith and strength blessed her family and countless others.
Judy is survived by her loving children: Jay (Sabrina) Gibbons, Janet (JD) Dicus, Jeff (Katie) Gibbons, Jill (Jason) Hardee, Jennifer (Scott) Spaulding, Jacci (Chad) Christiansen, and Justin (Karissa) Gibbons, and honorary son Christopher Hansen, as well as 31 amazing grandchildren and 16 adorable great-grandchildren with another on the way. Judy was preceded in death by her husband Larry Gibbons, her daughter Jana Gibbons, her parents Lillian and Keith Newhouse, her two brothers Keith Newhouse and Noel Newhouse, as well as an infant sister Mary Newhouse.
The family would like to thank Horizon Home Health for their compassionate care, especially Jan Ireland. A special thanks to Rebecca Mouritsen who helped care for Judy and provide respite for the family.
Funeral services will be held at the Mountain Home Stake Center, 790 S. Haskett St., on Monday, August 17th. The service begins at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Mountainview Cemetery.
