Karen Ann Cornick

Karen Ann (McCafferty) Cornick passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026, at her home due to complications from liver cancer. She was 69 years old.

Karen was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. She loved her science classes at Santa Barbara High and excelled in competitive swimming, especially freestyle and backstroke. Following High School, she attended college at San Diego State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing with her minor in Public Health. After earning her MSN in 1985, she served in the United States Air Force. She retired in 2016 after 20 years of service and held the rank of “Major”. Karen was known to have spent her adult life in service and devotion to God, family and friends.

Karen and Richard Dale Cornick were married in 1999 in Hawaii, and they were married for 27 years. They both retired in Mountain Home, Idaho where they enjoyed their well-deserved retirement time together by gardening outdoors, raising family pets and enjoying hobbies such as crafting and cooking as well as spending time with family and friends.

Karen is survived by her beloved husband Richard Dale Cornick of Mountain Home, ID, her uncle Don Lais (Paula) of Borrego Springs, CA and her siblings John Wesley McCafferty of Ventura, CA, Susan Elaine (McCafferty) Harrison (Sean) of Stoughton WI, Lisa Kristin (McCafferty) Alverez (Mario) and Lisa’s two children Sharin Ann Poynter (4 children) Joseph Robert Boyd (3 children).

Karen is preceded in death by her parents John Delmer McCafferty (1935 – 2024) and Andrea Agnes (Lais) Chase (1938 – 2003).

A graviveside service will be held in early fall.
