Kenneth Grinde

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dad, Kenneth Ingard Odean Grinde, of Mountain Home, ID. Kenneth passed at home on August 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Kenneth, known as Bobby in his hometown, was born on August 21, 1936 in Peever, South Dakota to Emma Iverson and Andrew Grinde. At the age of 19, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Air Force and served faithfully for 25 years in Security Forces. Over those years, he had many assignments, including Kadena AB, Okinawa, where he met and married the love of his life, Kay (formerly Shizuko Furugan), on May 4, 1960. After retiring from the Air Force, Kenneth worked at Pioneer Federal Credit Union from which he retired in August of 2001 at age 65. He really enjoyed spending time after work with co-workers at the Elks and Red Barn. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He and his wife were well known in the community as they owned and operated Grinde’s Diner for many years. His humor and deep devotion to family will be greatly missed and forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years Kay, brother Ardon Grinde, sister Charlotte Bolin, daughter Sandra and grandson Jakob Ash. Ken leaves behind his sister Beverly Johnson of Wolsey, South Dakota, daughters Susan Grinde (Carlton Stewart) and Sharon Grinde-Ash (David Ash) of Mountain Home, Idaho, granddaughter Janelle Widgeon of Mountain Home, Idaho, four great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery on September 26, 2026 at noon, with a celebration of life to follow at American Legion Post 26. We invite all who knew and loved Ken to join us in honoring his memory. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Mountain Home Animal Shelter or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
