Rosanne Lokker

Rosanne Lokker passed away on July 19, 2026 at the age of 87 in the caring company of her husband in Mountain Home, Idaho.

Her father was J. Harris Steggerda, of Holland, Michigan. Her mother was Jeanette (Broekema) Steggerda, originally from Grand Haven, Michigan. Rosanne was the eldest of four children.

Rosanne was born on July 23, 1938 in Holland, Michigan. Her family moved to Denver, Colorado and then to Bellingham, Washington before returning to Holland. In Holland she met her husband-to-be, William Jay (Bill) Lokker, where they both lived in nearby homes on “the Lagoon” and [then] Black Lake, now Lake Macatawa. Rosanne and Bill dated for several years under the watchful eyes of Harris and Jeanette before marrying on a warm sunny September 19, 1956 afternoon at the Steggerda lakefront home west of Holland. Just after their wedding Bill was sent to Erlangen, Germany where he served in the US Army. After visiting Bill in Germany, Rosanne returned to the US barely in time to give birth to their first child. Rosanne and Bill had five children. They lived in Holland, where Rosanne worked as the secretary for the Central Park Reformed Church. In 1985 Bill and Rosanne moved to Boise, Idaho, where Rosanne worked for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game until her retirement in 2007. Looking to get away from the busyness of Boise, Rosanne and Bill moved to the small town of Mountain Home, Idaho in 2011 where they enjoyed a quiet retirement.

Rosanne was being cared for and was surrounded by her husband, her son Bob, her daughter Wendy and her grandson Brian at the time of her passing.

Like her mother, Rosanne was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed cross-stitch projects (many of which hang on the walls of her children’s homes). Rosanne enjoyed traveling to visit her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader, and, unlike her husband and many of her contemporaries, always wanted the latest high-tech phones, tablets and communications gadgets. Even though she always made her children eat at least two horrible squishy oysters in her oyster soup, Rosanne always wanted to provide for her children and grandchildren by getting them little things that weren’t really necessities but were definitely niceties. One time her son’s carry-on bag went from 20 pounds to well over a hundred because she “slipped in” 12 reams of copy paper, some homemade jam and a loaf of cinnamon bread. She would also sneak off with her daughters to “burn rubber” in her 1962 Mercury Monterey, provided the girls promised NOT to tell their father.

Rosanne was predeceased by her parents; by her sister Susan (Ron) Schaap; and by a grandson, Tyler Downing. Rosanne is survived by her husband William Lokker of Mountain Home, ID; by a sister Nancy (Dick) Noggle of Harbor Springs, MI and brother James Steggerda of Holland, MI; by her five children Robert (Joan) Lokker of Darby, MT, Wendy (Scott) Downing of Emmett, ID, Kristi Hollingsworth of Harbor Springs, MI, Amy (John) Peters of Harbor Springs, MI and William (Marcia) Mulder of Boise, ID; by 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A private family memorial service is planned.
