Thomas L. Coester

Thomas L. Coester, born on April 1, 1949, in Pittsburgh, PA, passed away at his home in Mountain Home, ID, on July 6, 2026. His long and meaningful life was a testament to dedication, honor, and the enduring bonds of family.

Thomas’s journey began in Pennsylvania, where he attended Richland High School in Gibsonia. These formative years helped shape the values and principles he carried with him throughout his life. Upon graduating, Thomas answered the call to serve his country and embarked on a distinguished two-decade career in the United States Air Force. As an Air Traffic Controller, he demonstrated unwavering commitment and exceptional skill, earning the Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal. He served bravely during the Vietnam War, forging lasting friendships and contributing greatly to the safety and success of his fellow servicemen.

After retiring from the military, Thomas continued to serve his community as a Park Ranger for the State of Idaho. His love for the outdoors and dedication to public service enriched the lives of many and fostered a deep connection between people and the natural beauty of Idaho. Tom also served as the post commander of American Legion Post 26, of Mountain Home. 

Thomas’s memory lives on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. He is survived by his son, W. Robert Coester (Gabbie) of Omega, GA; and his sister, Marlene Tindall (William C.) of Atco, NJ. Thomas also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, and many nieces, a nephews, and cousins.

He is reunited in rest with his wife, Aloha Coester; his brothers, Robert L. and Wm J Coester; and his parents, Julius D. Coester and Mary E. Farrell. Each preceded him in death, and their memories remained central in Thomas’s heart.

Thomas will be honored with a graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery, 725 North 18th East Street, Mountain Home, ID 83647, on July 31, 2026, beginning at 1:00 PM.

Thomas L. Coester will be remembered for his steadfast dedication, his service to his country and community, and the deep affection he held for his family and friends. He will be missed deeply, but his legacy will live on through those who had the privilege to know and love him.
