Roberta Ruth Reed
December 4, 1971 — April 21, 2026
Roberta Ruth Reed December 4, 1971 – April 21, 2026
Roberta Ruth Reed was born on December 4, 1971, in Mesa, Arizona, to Robert Reed and Mary Reed Riley. Named after her father, Robert, she carried strength, resilience, and determination throughout her life. She spent her early childhood in Mesa before moving to Tempe and later settling in Glendale, Arizona, where she grew up.
Roberta attended Cactus High School and later graduated from Wilcox High School in 1990. From a young age, she was known for her strong work ethic and independent spirit. She began babysitting at just 10 years old and started working in fast food by age 14. At only 15 years old, before she was even old enough to drive, she proudly bought her first car — a reflection of the determination and hustle that would define her throughout her life. She was never afraid of hard work and spent much of her life finding ways to provide, build, and create opportunities for herself and her family.
During school, Roberta developed a deep love for the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. At 15 years old, she traveled to the Philippines, beginning what would become a lifelong love of travel, culture, and learning. After high school, she attended Cochise College in Douglas, Arizona, where she studied nursing and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
At 22 years old, Roberta married and later welcomed her daughter, Carmyna. Though the marriage ended when she was 26, she continued forward with strength and determination. At 29, she remarried and later welcomed her son, David. Much of her life was spent as a devoted single mother, always finding a way to support and care for her children.
Alongside her second husband, Alex, she helped build and operate Happy Face Auto Sales, a used and resalvaged car business she genuinely enjoyed. Roberta had a natural talent for business, numbers, problem-solving, and fixing things. She loved learning how things worked and had a remarkable memory that helped her succeed in many areas of life.
Her adventurous spirit led her to live in several places, including South Carolina and eventually Mexico. Her journeys took her through nearly all 50 states, as well as Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. She loved experiencing different cultures, foods, and ways of life. She especially loved the beach, nature, gardening, dancing, and animals. She once dreamed of becoming a veterinarian and later volunteered at a veterinary clinic while living in Mexico.
Roberta was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and deeply loved her family. She was strong, intelligent, hardworking, loving, and stubborn at times, but always deeply caring. She brought laughter, comfort, and support to the people around her.
Nothing brought her greater joy than her granddaughter, Kamari Aster Divine, who was truly the light of her life. She lovingly called Kamari her “sunshine” and her “moon star,” and helped inspire her middle name, Aster, meaning “star flower.”
One of the special sayings shared between Roberta and her loved ones was, “I love you around the world and back again,” a reflection of the deep love she carried for her family throughout her life.
Roberta was preceded in death by her beloved son, David; her grandfather, Steven Branesky; and the dogs she loved so dearly throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Carmyna Divine; her granddaughter, Kamari Aster Divine; her parents, Mary Reed Riley and Robert Reed; her siblings Catherine, Stephanie, Duane, Judy, and Jeff; as well as many extended family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were touched by her warmth, humor, strength, and adventurous spirit.
Roberta’s life was one of resilience, adventure, love, and perseverance. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
