Mary Ann (Rose) Maroney

December 9, 1935 — May 23, 2026

Mary Ann Rose Maroney, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend, went home to heaven on May 23, 2026. We will greatly miss her presence in our lives, but we are grateful for the legacy she left us and that she is free from any pain and burdens.

Mary was born December 9, 1935, in West St. Paul, MN. She was the eldest of seven children born to Annette and Lee Taverna. She fondly spoke of the love of her family and the bond they shared. Mary attended Monroe High School and talked about many activities she was involved in but was especially proud of cheerleading for the basketball team, the same team where her brother played basketball. She was also proud of her baton twirling skills in a band sponsored by the Hylex Company.

Mary met David Rose in 1956, at 20 years old, and they immediately fell in love and married in January 1957. They raised six boys in the North St. Paul area and entertained many of their friends over the years. Everyone loved their family and often told the boys how lucky they were to have such special parents. All the boys knew how blessed they were to have Mary and Dave as their parents, and the example and legacy they provided for their futures. Dave’s time on earth was short, and he went to heaven in October 1997. After several years, Mary’s brother introduced her to Joe Maroney and Mary and Joe were married in May 2006. They shared many happy years together.

Mary is survived by her children: Daniel (Jane), Douglas (Tammy), John (Joan), Jeffrey (Lori), Todd, Troy (Deb); 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; siblings Robert (Judy) Taverna, Marty Taverna, sister-in-law Linda Taverna and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, David Rose and Joe Maroney, siblings Wally Taverna, Dick Taverna (sister-in-law Sally), Nancy Nolan, Janet Taverna, and beloved granddaughter Nicole Rose.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 AM at Woodbury Lutheran Church Oak Hill Campus in Stillwater. The service to celebrate Mary’s life will begin at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. The family will depart for the cemetery at 1:30 PM. Mary will be buried next to Dave, her husband of 40 years, at Lakeview Cemetery in Mahtomedi, MN.
