Gail S. Nevins
Jun 11, 1954 — Sep 30, 2026
Gail Susan Nevins, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 11, 1954, to Elizabeth (Betty) Buelow and Donald Buelow.
Gail grew up in Jefferson in a home that her parents built. She attended East Elementary, Jefferson Middle School, and Jefferson High School, graduating in 1972. She then attended UW-Madison to pursue a
degree in Elementary Education and later completed her Master’s degree at UW-Whitewater. Gail married Peter Nevins on July 26, 1980, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church and celebrated 46 years together this past summer.
Gail was employed as a teacher in the School District of Cambridge for 29 years. After retiring from the School District of Cambridge, the School District of Fort Atkinson sought her expertise. She continued as a Reading Recovery teacher part-time for 12 years in the Fort School District. After her contracted teaching years, Gail continued to volunteer at Milton East Elementary, the school her daughter and nephew are currently teachers at. She helped so many young students in her 41 years in the classroom.
She has been an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for her entire life. She served on the Church Council, Altar Guild, sang in the choir and with the women’s Ceaseless Praise group. She was a coordinator and volunteer for Mana-Monday, a free community meal served weekly at St. Mark's Church.
She is survived by her husband Pete, daughter Jaimie (Jason) Cramer of Raleigh, NC, and daughter Lindsay (Bryan) Poredos of Jefferson, WI; brother Gary (Margie) Buelow of Fond du Lac, WI; grandchildren Sadie Poredos, Owen Poredos, and Luke Poredos.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Betty Buelow, and brother Greg Buelow. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 16, 2026, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of service. There will be no burial following the church service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or Manna-Monday organized through St. Mark’s. The family would like to especially thank the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison, and SSM Health, Fort Atkinson.
Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home of Jefferson is proudly serving the family.
