Alejandro Mendez Reyes
d. Sep 12, 2026
Alejandro “Alex” Mendez Reyes, 67, of Payette, Idaho, passed away September 12, 2026, at an Idaho Falls medical facility, surrounded by his family.
A funeral service, under the direction of Schaffer-Jensen Memorial Chapel, will be held at 9:30 a.m. on September 21, 2026, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fruitland, Idaho. Burial of cremains will follow the service, reuniting him with his twin brother, Alfredo M. Reyes.
Alex was born August 6, 1959, in Hondo, Texas, the youngest of 14 children born to Manuel and Raquel Reyes. He spent his early childhood in Texas before moving to Payette, Idaho, in 1967. He attended Payette High School and was a member of the Class of 1978.
Alex raised two sons, born in 1981 and 1983, and could never quite remember their birthdays correctly. Throughout his life, he worked in a variety of fields serving others, including wildfire firefighting, factory work, and tree trimming.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and spending time with his dogs—Blacky, Bear, Jake, and Blue. A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, Alex always called his sisters Martha, Lupe and his son Manuel during and after each game, win, lose, or draw.
Alex is survived by his sons, Alex Reyes of Apple Valley, California, and Manuel Reyes and his wife, Anna, of Kailua, Hawaii. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher, Alexandra, Julian, David, Elora, Bryce, Iycis, Sophia, and Manuel Jr.; great-granddaughter Daniella; brothers Alberto, Jesus “Jesse,” and Ramon “Tony”; and sisters Cuca, Martha, Rosa, Lupe, and Eva.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raquel and Manuel Reyes; and his brothers Alfredo “Freddy,” Manuel “Veto,” and Juan “Cheeta” Reyes.
Alex will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” —Psalm 23:1–4
