Dolores "Ducky" McDonald Cahill

Our mother, Dolores “Ducky” McDonald Cahill, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, with the quiet grace and dignity that defined her life.

Born and raised in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, “Ducky” was the youngest of seven siblings. Her childhood was shaped by the closeness of a large, loving family — parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, and their children all living within walking distance of each other. That sense of togetherness became the foundation of who she was.

She spent her summers at the family’s country cottage, The Bungalow, in Croydon, Pennsylvania, on the banks of the Neshaminy Creek. Those days were filled with simple joys: swimming in the creek, fishing, canoeing, playing cards, listening to the Phillies game on the radio and breathing in the fresh country air far from the city. “The Bungalow” was more than a place — it was a sanctuary of laughter, connection, and the kind of memories that stay warm for a lifetime.

Ducky graduated from Saint Boniface Business School, where she developed management skills that would carry her through a long and dedicated career at the Internal Revenue Service on Roosevelt Boulevard. She approached her work with the same steadiness and commitment she brought to every aspect of her life, earning the respect of colleagues and forming friendships that lasted decades.

Eventually, all the families moved to the Northeast section of Philadelphia. Dolores, her husband Martin, and their four children — Linda, Martin, Karen, and David — enjoyed suburban like living in Parkwood Manor. Their home was filled with love, laughter, and the everyday moments that become cherished memories. Ducky created a household rooted in warmth and stability, always making sure her children felt supported and cared for.

Dolores was predeceased by her husband, Martin, and all her brothers and sisters. As she would say with a mix of sadness and humor after the last sibling passed, “I’m the last of the Mohicans now.” She leaves behind four children Linda Pieri ( Greg, now deceased), Martin ( Patricia, now deceased), Karen Gay ( Chris) and David (Linda), six grandchildren (Kate, Gregory (who predeceased her), Christopher, Kevin, Danielle and Nicole), and four great-grandchildren — each of whom she loved deeply and wholeheartedly.

She lived 90 years and was fortunate to have spent her last birthday with all her children. She was an ardent follower of extended family members on Facebook and would always offer congratulations on their birthdays and life achievements. She was a woman of deep devotion — to her family, to her faith, and to the everyday acts of care that made others feel safe. Her gentle nature, quick wit, and steadfast love created a home where everyone felt welcomed and protected.

A private family service will honor her life and the legacy of love she leaves behind.
