James Edward Miller

James Edward Miller of Hardeeville, South Carolina, passed away at the age of 82 on August 5 2026 after a long battle with lung cancer.

Jim was born in Colon, Rep. of Panama in 1944 to Leon Allen Miller from Coburn, Virginia and Eleanor Blanch Johnston Miller of War, West Virginia.

Spending most summers and long holidays in West Virginia, Jim's schooling was primarily in Norfolk and Virginia Beach and proudly graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1962. Many classmates have been lifelong friends. After attending and graduating Chowan University in North Carolina he began to attend Old Dominion until he received notice of the draft for military service.

Joining the Army in the fall of 1966, his training began at Ft. Brag, North Carolina and then to Advanced Individual Training in Ft. McClellan Alabama. As an honor graduate Jim was offered an opportunity to attend the Armored Cavalry Officer Candidate School at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. After graduating as an Honor Graduate he was assigned to the 3rd.Squadron of the 8th Infantry Division in Coleman Barracks in Germany.

He had a long and varied work career. Primarily in Sales. His favorite and most fulfilling work was working with a division of Curtis Wright, Metal Improvement Products in Connecticut.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Wendy, and their canines Bradley and Anderson, and felines Kaci and Tombo. He is also survived by his first wife Molly Catron (Wayne) and their two wonderful children, Kimberly and Jim Ed. Stepsons Mark Nelson and Todd Nelson. Grandchildren Jessica, Rachael, Kaitlin and Asher. And six great grandchildren. Brother Douglas Miller (Elena) nephews Allen and Justin.

His life was long and filled with excitement including jumping out of airplanes, owning big and small boats, being active with the Christian Motorcycle Club, scuba diving, becoming a boat Captain qualified on boats 100 tons. He was very musical and played several instruments, including, guitar, banjo, piano, and trumpet and he also sang. He never turned down a drink or the chance to tell a story.

Finally, his greatest love, golf. He achieved several holes in one and he was always happy to collect $5 when he beat his brother Douglas.

He pretty much checked every box in life. He will be missed by many.
