Jane Daniel Johnson

Sep 25, 1945 — Aug 12, 2026

In loving memory of Jane Daniel Johnson.

Jane Daniel Johnson, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026. She was 80 years old.

Jane was born on September 25, 1945, in Millen, Georgia to Clinton Orland Daniel and Elizabeth Newton Daniel. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her devoted husband and love of her life, David Allen Johnson, and her brothers Julian Wylie Daniel and James Clinton Daniel.

Jane is survived by her three children: Christopher Allen Johnson and his wife Stephanie, Caroline Elizabeth Johnson , and Elizabeth Johnson Sexson and her husband Scott. She leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Camille and Cambyl Johnson, Jonathan Brainard, Beau and Mary-Jane Sexson and her brother Joel Norman Daniel and his wife Charlotte.

Throughout Jane’s life she displayed a strong love and commitment to God, her family, friends and anyone that crossed her path. Growing up in a small rural town in Georgia, she helped her parents run the family grocery store, delivered newspapers and prepared meals for her family before heading to school each day. Even as a young girl, Jane embraced responsibility and was always willing to lend a hand. Jane also was a majorette in the high marching band, played multiple musical instruments and was active in many local organizations and clubs throughout youth.

Following high school Jane attended Valdosta State University and it was there she met the love of her life, Dave, who was stationed at Moody Air Force Base while completing pilot training. That chance meeting marked the beginning of a devoted marriage and life-long love that would become one of the greatest chapters of Jane’s life. After a brief courtship Jane and Dave were married and began a life together one filled with love, adventure, and new experiences. Dave’s Air Force career took them to military bases including Plattsburgh, NY, Roswell, NM, and Spokane, WA.

After leaving the Air Force, Jane and Dave found their way back to Georgia settling in Conyers where they began their next chapter raising their three children. While Dave continued his career in aviation as a Delta Airlines pilot, Jane was an active member of the community working as a substitute teacher, teaching Sunday school, serving as a church elder and serving in leadership roles in many organizations including Daughters of the American Revolution, Garden Club of Georgia, Conyers Presbyterian Church, Alpha Delta Pi Alumni, Civic League and PTO. She continued her philanthropy throughout her life.

After her husband’s passing, Jane returned to Millen to care for her mother. While in Millen she continued her involvement in community organizations serving as a city councilwoman, being recognized as the 2010 Millen / Jenkins County Citizen of the Year, achieving five-star National Garden Club status, teaching baton lessons after school and playing piano as a member of the Millen Baptist Church.

Jane eventually relocated to Hilton Head Island where she spent the last years of her life closer to family. Not one to slow down, Jane continued her involvement in her new community. She was an active member of North Island Baptist Church, HHP Avid Gardeners and Woman’s Clubs, and Captain William Hilton D.A.R. chapter. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Hilton Head Island School for the Creative Arts with the Junior Garden Club and Chorus.

In addition to serving her community, Jane enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing piano, spending time with family and friends, cheering on her grandchildren and taking long walks. Jane never seemed to encounter a stranger and had a smile for all.

Mom’s last twenty-four hours of her life were spent playing cards and laughing with friends, being an active grandmother, hosting family for dinner and even attending bible study an hour before her passing. Despite her year-long battle with colon cancer, Mom remained a faithful servant to God and others, trusting in His timing and making the most of every second until she laid down to rest.

A graveside service will be held on the anniversary date of her marriage, Saturday, December 19th, 2026, 11:00 AM at Millen Cemetery, 1029 College Ave, Millen, GA 30442.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in her name to Millen Baptist Church (PO Box 827, Millen, GA 30442), North Island Baptist Church of Hilton Head (3800 Main Street, Hilton Head, SC 29926), or the Junior Garden Club program of Avid Gardners of HHP (73 Headlands Drive, Hilton Head SC 29926).
