Benjamin Franklin Watkins III

"Sonny" Benjamin Franklin Watkins III, 77, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on September 13, 2026 with his family by his side as he passed in Summerville SC. Sonny was a beloved husband, daddy, papa, great-papa, uncle, brother & friend. Sonny was predeceased by his parents Benjamin Watkins Jr. & Mae Walters.

He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Kira Watkins of 57 years. Together, they built a life rich in love and family, creating a legacy that will continue through generations to come.

Sonny is survived by his wife Kira, his sons, Michael A.Watkins (Kathy) and L. Jason Watkins (Molly) , as well as his grandchildren, Lauryn, Kaitlyn, Dalton & Harley, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride to his life. Sonny was also blessed with three great grandchildren, Isla, Iliza, and Jr.

Sonny was loved and cherished by his adoring sisters, Sharon (Jerry),Susan and Ann, as well as countless nieces and nephews.

Sonny was a hero to not only his family, but also to his country through his service in the US ARMY during the Vietnam War. Those that knew Sonny, of course knew his love for his precious dog "Randa" and his passion for anything outdoors, particularly working in his yard.

Sonny's morals and values were instilled in his son's lives and will continue on through their lives and their children's as well.

There will be a celebration of life held in his honor on

September 27th 2026 at 2:00pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church
