Carolyn Sowell

Carolyn Virginia Herron Sowell, age 84, of Summerville, SC passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23. 2026 at 9 am.

Carolyn was born on July 9, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Garfield and Rose Clara Skorczewski Herron.

Carolyn was a Certified Nurse Aide later in life after receiving her GED. She loved the Lord Jesus and wrote an abundance of Christian poems that were published by TBN/Trilogy Publishing in the book "Poems From Pancake", 2024. Carolyn was an avid artist using various media such as oils and acrylic paints, ink, and colored pencils. In addition , she loved to crochet. She will be remembered for being an encouraging person for her family, in her home for visitors, and in her neighborhood.

Carolyn was preceded in death by: her parents Garfield and Rose Clara Skorczewski Herron; and her siblings: James Herron, Gary Herron, Jerry Herron, and Maryann Lawrence.

Carolyn is survived by her children: Lori Lynn Mitchum-Burns (Carl), Anastasia Marie Felix (Ben), John Szemly,Jr.(Cathy), Kimberly Joy Emerson (Chris), Christine Lou Doris Furr (Don), and Todd Michael Sowell. Her grandchildren are: Amanda Mitchum, Kenny Mitchum, Jr., Christopher Taylor, Daniel Crowe, Gabrielle Szemly, Samuel Emerson, Katy Emerson, Justin Urick, Kurstin Perkins, and Paisley Fike. Her great grandchildren are Session Mitchum, Issac Crowe, Eliza Crowe, Gabriel Taylor, and Sade Perkins.Carolyn has many nieces, nephews, and other relatives across America.

A memorial Celebration of Life for Carolyn was held at her home on October 25, 2026. Family, friends, and caregivers attended.
