Chastity Bigney

Mar 2, 1976 — Oct 6, 2026

Chastity Bigney, 50, of El Campo, Texas, died at her home in Summerville, South Carolina, on October 06, 2026. She was born on March 2, 1976, in El Campo to Mariano and Estella Cruz.

Chastity was known for her kindness, loving spirit, and passion for the fire service. She loved being around children and spending time with her family. Her true passion was being a firefighter. She was the first-ever female Battalion Chief for Dorchester County Fire and Rescue. She truly loved both her family and her fire family. She was a “fire mom” to everyone who served and an amazing mom to her own children. Her love language was giving, but she would have no problem offering to cut you if you got out of hand.

Chastity is survived by her husband of 32 years, Todd Bigney; her children, Skylar, 26, and Ty, 23, of Summerville, South Carolina; her father, Mariano Cruz; her brother, Zachary Cruz; and her sister, Ashley Cruz, all of El Campo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Estella Cruz.

A memorial and celebration of life will be held on October 15, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Sand Hill Methodist Church, 1961 Summers Drive, Ridgeville, SC 29472.

Please send flowers to Dorchester County Fire Station 22, 1450 Clayfield Drive, Summerville, SC 29485.

The family thanks the nurses of 7 West, the palliative care team at MUSC, the care team at Agape Hospice, and the men and women of Dorchester County Fire and Rescue for all their love and support.
