Curtis Jerome Middleton

Curtis Jerome Middleton, affectionately known as Curt, Tank, and Slab, entered eternal rest on Saturday, July 25, 2026. Born on February 13, 1961, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Curtis was the beloved son of John H. Middleton Sr. and Connalee Manigault Middleton.

A proud native of Berkeley County, Curtis graduated from Berkeley High School as a member of the Class of 1979. During his high school years, he developed a love for baseball, a passion he continued to enjoy well into adulthood. Whether on the field or cheering on the game, baseball remained one of the simple pleasures that brought him joy throughout his life.

Following graduation, Curtis dedicated much of his professional life to the Berkeley County School District, faithfully serving as a custodial director. Throughout his career, he became much more than the person who cared for the buildings. He built meaningful relationships with students, teachers, administrators, and staff, earning the respect and affection of everyone who crossed his path. His warm smile, dependable spirit, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on countless lives.

Curtis was a gifted craftsman who enjoyed working with his hands. Whether he was fishing, building with wood, laying brick, or repairing automobiles, he found joy in creating, fixing, and helping others. He took pride in honest work and found fulfillment in using his talents to serve those around him.

What made Curt, “Curt,” he was never the loudest voice in the room. It was his quiet presence, his warm smile, and the steady way he made people feel at ease. He didn’t have to say much for people to know they mattered to him. His kindness spoke through his actions, his reliability, and the simple way he showed up for the people he loved.

Family was the cornerstone of Curtis’s life. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Latoya Lewis, Kurtis Moorer, and Curtis Middleton. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Areanna, Javaria, Natasha, Jalen, Laurore, ReZsaun Jr., Isis, Jordyn, and Malayah, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life.

He is also survived by his brothers, John Middleton Jr. and Darrylee Middleton, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, former coworkers, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Curtis lived a life defined by humility, hard work, loyalty, and love. He never sought recognition for the good he did, yet his impact was undeniable. Whether through his years of service to the schools of Berkeley County, the projects he completed with his skilled hands, or the love he poured into his family, Curtis quietly made the lives of others better.

Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, his gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unforgettable smile will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

His legacy is one of faithful service, unwavering dedication, quiet strength, and unconditional love. He reminded us that a life doesn’t have to be loud to leave a lasting impact.
