Emily Henning, 74, passed away peacefully on April 18 at 11:57 a.m. in Charleston, South Carolina. Born on June 14, 1951, in Shanghai, China, Emily lived a life defined by resilience, generosity, and deep love for others.
At the age of 12, she immigrated to Hong Kong, where she began building her path in the hospitality and clothing industries. During this time, she also worked alongside her brother entertaining in various supper clubs, sharing her vibrant spirit and love of connecting with others. In 1978, she moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey, continuing her career in hospitality and the gaming industry. It was in Atlantic City where she met her beloved husband, Brock Henning, and the two were married on June 18, 1981, at the Sands Hotel and Casino. They later transferred to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she continued her career in the hospitality and gaming industry and touched many lives with her warmth and dedication.
Emily was the cherished daughter of the late Winston and Lillian Kot. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ray Kot. She is survived by her loving sister, Linda Wan, and brother-in-law, Paul Wan, as well as her nieces, Sonia (Wan) Lee and Janet Wan, her nephews, Roger Wan and Drew Kot, and her two fur babies she adored, Danny and Toaz.
Emily had a passion for fine dining, traveling, and above all, bringing people together. She found joy in cooking and hosting, expressing her love through every meal she prepared and every gathering she created. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and a sense of belonging for all who entered.
Those who knew Emily will remember her as a truly beautiful soul, kind, selfless, and endlessly giving. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel cared for and valued. Her humor, strength, and generous heart touched countless lives. To know Emily was to be blessed, and her absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Emily’s life will be held on June 14. Additional details will be shared at a later time.
Emily will be deeply missed, but her love, kindness, and legacy will live on in all who knew her.
