Eugene (Geno) F. Cercopely, Jr. passed away peacefully on July 9th, 2026 surrounded by family and friends.
He was born in Charleston, SC on November 18, 1934 to Eugene F. Cercopely, Sr. and Gertrude Buckheister Cercopely.
He graduated in 1953 from Chicora High School.
Geno married Shirley Kearney in 1955 and they had a milestone marriage of 71 years.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 166 in Goose Creek, SC. He was a devoted Christian of the Anglican faith. He retired from Westvaco after 37 ½ years.
Geno loved fishing on all Lowcountry rivers and lakes with his many friends and family members. He also loved classic cars, car shows, and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. Geno will be remembered for his wit and many life stories.
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley and five children: Cindy Espositio (David), Frank Cercopely (Mary Lou), Cheryl Cercopely, Renee Brodie (David), and Hugh (Chico) Cercopely aka River Ashe, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, brother Ernest (Dee) Cercopely (Janet), and four nieces. Geno was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ellen Myer, 3 nephews, and many cousins.
The family and Geno would like to extend a big Thank You to all of his wonderful friends and Roper Hospice, with special thanks to Downy, Sharon, Shawn, John, Melissa, Katy, and Denise for their loving care.
A Celebration of Life will be on August 1, 2026 from 1PM -? At the Dorchester Shrine Club 2150 Beech Hill Road Summerville 29485. Please Text/Call RSVP to 828-284-8752.
