John Douglas Gaspers (Gabby), born on July 12, 1951 in Rushville Nebraska was sent to his eternal home November 10, 2025, at North Charleston, South Carolina following a long illness.
John was a shining light in the life of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was filled with love, laughter, compassion and unwavering love for his friends and family. His loss has left a hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. We ask that you remember him for the way he lived and what he meant to all of you.After graduating high school, he joined the US Army and served in Southeast Asia.
After John was discharged he worked several jobs including deputy sheriff. police officer and over the road trucking with Larry Johnson Trucking. John also worked as conductor and engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad, Dakota Eastern Railroad, and Southwestern Railroad.
John is survived by his loving wife Sandra, sons Josh (Christy) and Jeff (Nicole). John has four beloved grandchildren Katie, James, Allyssa, and Jayson. He is survived by his sister Barbara (Daniel), brothers Nicke (Jan), Greg (Marie), Chris (Brenda) , brother in law Leigh Mueller and sister in law Lou (Greg) Dougherty. John was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers, and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Rita, son Jason , grandson Kyle, and brothers Martin and Stephen.
John’s internment will be in Rushville Nebraska next summer. The date is pending. John’s physical presence is no longer with us but his spirit will live on in everyone who knew and loved him.
