In Loving Memory of John J. Toman
August 13, 1939 – October 24, 2026

John J. Toman, 87, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2026. He will be remembered for his deep faith, his love for his family, and the many lives he touched throughout his lifetime.

Born on August 13, 1939, in Queens, New York, John was the son of John Toman and Elizabeth Tennis. He graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn, New York, and went on to earn both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Business Administration from Pace University in Westchester County, New York.

John’s faith was at the heart of his life. His greatest passion was biblical studies. He devoted himself to teaching Bible study classes and sharing the Word of God with others in a way that was meaningful, accessible, and easy to understand. Through his teaching, John helped many people deepen their faith and develop a greater understanding of Scripture.

Beyond his faith, one of John’s greatest joys was ballroom dancing with his lovely wife, Gabrielle. The two shared a special connection on the dance floor, and their graceful, joyful dancing often drew everyone’s attention. So captivating were their performances together that people would clear the dance floor just to watch them dance.

Above all, John cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gabrielle; his son, John, and daughter-in-law, Maureen; and his daughter, Therese, and son-in-law, Rick. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: John Thomas and his wife, Lindsay; Megan and her husband, Jared; Matthew and his wife, Jocelyn; Michael and his wife, Emma; and Gabrielle and her husband, Michael. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Myles, Colton, and Mary Toman, who brought him great joy.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Toman; his mother, Elizabeth Tennis; his sister, Maureen Ihm; and his brother, Kevin Toman.

John’s life was a testament to faith, love, and devotion. Whether sharing the wisdom of Scripture, dancing with Gabrielle, or spending time with the family he treasured, he made a lasting impression on those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
