Michael Sinclair Driggers
Jan 1, 1966 — Jun 17, 2026
Michael S. Driggers of Grover SC passed away at his home on June 17th, 2026. Mike was born on New Year’s Day 1966 in Moncks Corner, SC to Sinclair Driggers and Frances McClenny. He is survived by his father, Sinclair and siblings Wendi (Troy) Dion, Daniel (Jennifer) Driggers, Amanda McCollom, Cheryl Bonifay and Steven (Rosalyn) Bonifay, Ricky (Amanda) Fort, Rusty Fort and Ray Fort as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his Mother Frances “Big Flo” McClenny, Father Lee G. (Mac) McClenny and brother Robert L. Bonifay.
Mike grew up in Summerville with Wendi, Mac, Frances and his extended family Paul and Phyllis Qualls and their daughters Dawn and Jennie (who along with Wendi would conspire to endlessly annoy Mike). He developed a passion for Ford Mustangs, Four Wheel drive trucks, hunting which he would share with his circle of friends. As a child, his personal goals were to become either a German Shepherd (inspired by 6-million-dollar man & Max) or a US Marine. After graduating from Summerville High School in 1984, Michael, thankfully, opted to pursue the second option and served honorably as a Motor Transport (Motor “T”) Operator in Okinawa and MCAS Beaufort until his discharge in 1988.
After the Marines, Mike became a tractor trailer driver for his father until he developed a pituitary tumor that made him unable to maintain his CDL. He then became an Animal Control Officer for Charleston and, later, Dorchester country where he gained notoriety for his compassion for animals and unvarnished contempt for those who mistreated them. During his tenure with Dorchester Country, Mike found his forever home in Grover. In 1998, Mike was hired by SCE&G (later Dominion Energy) where he worked at Williams Station, Canadys Station and finally Cope Station SC (with his partner Pete) until his passing.
If Mike’s story ended there, it would be a life well lived. However, Mike was just like Shrek and like onions and ogres: he had LAYERS. On the surface, Mike was a huge, hulking, rough and tumble guy with no filter between his brain and his mouth. Underneath was an equally big goofball with a soft heart who worried endlessly about those he cared about. He and Wendi argued perpetually like two 5-year-olds but were inseparable in life with Wendi serving as his financial advisor starting with a childhood 10-dollar loan for a skateboard. As children, Mike converted Wendi’s Barbie Camper Van to the GI Joe Urban Assault Vehicle complete with camo paint, big tires and machine gun turrets. Last Christmas Mike scoured the internet and found a pristine Barbie Camper Van and gave it to Wendi thus ending the decades old controversy. As a member of the He-Man Woman Hater Club, at great personal risk, he would allow Wendi, Dawn and Jennie access to the fort hideout, even frying bologna for them in an aspirin tin. He worked on vehicles for his family and friends as a nearly fulltime job with the price generally being an extended lecture on the neglect that caused the breakdown. Any dog that found itself without a place to go, seemed to find a home in Groverland. His true calling, however, was as a life and parenting coach. You never had to wonder what Mike thought and where you stood and could always count on Mike telling exactly how and why you were failing at life in general and a parent in particular. (Mikeology)
Mike’s passing leaves an enormous hole in the lives of everyone he leaves behind and an enormous legacy of laughter, love, bewilderment and junk. Through the tears and laughter, we can take solace that Mike left this world exactly as he lived it, on his own terms,
A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:30am at the St. George Rosendwald School located at 205 Ann Street, St. George SC 29477. Mike would insist on this being a casual event so shorts and camo or your best t-shirt are welcome as well as a good story about Mike! Please join the family and friends for fellowship and lunch immediately following.
