Nathan R Smith
July 10, 1988 — May 26, 2026
Nathan R. Smith of Ladson SC, entered into eternal life on 5/25/2026. Nathan is the son of Ronald and Candy Smith. He is predeceased by his precious dog Gurlie, Grandparents Harold Smith and Gloria Jenkins of Gloucester, Va., his sister, Mary Ellen Smith; and three cousins: Tommy Hanf Jr, Rachel Sottile, and Daniel Hanf.
Nathan attended Wando High School, where he was in the ROTC program. He worked at several professions and excelled in each endeavor he put his mind to. His charisma and charm could bring a smile to any face and make a friend of everyone. He was always unapologetically himself- charismatic, creative, generous, and deeply loving. Nathan was such a generous person: with his time, his knowledge, and with his love. He expressed his creativity in countless ways through music, art, gardening, cooking and the many projects he shared with others. He was a rescuer of animals in need and saved Gurlie from a life on the streets. She was his shadow in every season of life. Nathan often expressed how Gurlie saved him when life grew heavy. She had a way of bringing light into his darkest days, and they shared a bond that didn’t need words to be understood.
He will be remembered for his authentic style, quick zingers, outgoing personality, contagious laugh, easy smile, and his unwavering loyalty to the people he cared about. He was the pick-me-up king who never failed to bring a laugh out of the crowd. He also loved a thought-provoking, friendly debate to share and gain all the knowledge he could. He had a gift for making people feel seen and valued. Whether through a perfectly chosen gift, a joke to lift someone’s spirits, or simply his presence, Nathan brought comfort and joy to those around him.
Words cannot fully encompass all the things that Nathan was and will continue to be through his loved ones. No doubt Nathan is walking with his sister and fishing at the marsh with his companion Gurlie at his side, searching for treasures; exactly where he was happiest. He is survived by his parents, his favorite cousin, Christina, many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2026 from 2-4 at Simplicity Lowcountry, Ladson 281 Treeland Dr. Suite C. Ladson, SC.
