Paul Douglas Bartleson

Aug 5, 1952 — Oct 1, 2026

Paul Douglas Bartleson (74) of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, was born on August 5, 1952, in Fort Myers, Florida.

Paul went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 1, surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was a devoted member of Northwood Baptist Church Berkeley (formerly Gethsemane) for 27 years. He dearly loved his church family, and his faith was an important part of his life. He loved reading his Bible, listening to gospel music, and telling others about the Lord. Paul never met a stranger and was always willing to share his faith with those around him.

Paul was a proud member of the United States Navy until he retired and was honorably discharged after 20 years of service. He later went on to work as a crane operator at Detyen’s Shipyard.

Paul was married to the love of his life, Gwen, for 53 years. They loved each other dearly and enjoyed watching football, laughing together every day, and simply spending time with one another.

Paul loved cheering on his Miami Dolphins and Florida State Seminoles. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He especially loved talking about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him such joy.

Paul is survived by his wife, Gwen (Hopkins); his daughters, Paula Kirlin (Kenny) and Beth Lowe (Matt); and his four grandsons, Matthew Brownlee (Cori), Scott Brownlee (Hannah), Stephen Lowe, and Jacob Lowe. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Braelyn, Elijah, Bennett, Brooks, Emmett, Miles, and Matthew.

He is also survived by his brother, Mark Bartleson (Gaynell) of James Island, and his sisters, Judy Pratt of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, and Lura “Cookie” Adams (Dave) of Lugoff.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents Mark “Honey” and Mary “Betty” Bartleson, his brother Thomas Bartleson, and his sister Judy Corbet.

Paul leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, laughter, and devotion to his family. He loved the Lord and his church deeply, and his presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of his life will be held at Northwood Baptist Church Berkeley at 3 o’clock on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
