Robert Joseph Jeffries
June 25, 1939 — June 29, 2025
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Joseph Jeffries, affectionately known as Bob, Bobby Joe, or Jeff, who died peacefully on June 29, 2025, at the age of 86.
Robert was born on June 25, 1939, in Denver, Colorado. He proudly served in the United States Navy, demonstrating the same sense of duty and discipline that would later define his professional and personal life. After his military service, he devoted his civilian career to public service, retiring after a long and respected tenure as a systems analyst in the civil service.
Although Robert spent the majority of his life in the Lowcountry his formative years were spent in and around Quincy, Illinois, a place he always considered home. He cherished memories of swimming in the local rock quarries and sharing adventures with his friends in the area.
Later in life, Robert became an avid golfer and loved attending the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia. He was a die-hard South Carolina Gamecocks fan, and his enthusiasm for sports was matched by his love of the outdoors—especially boating and fishing. He was generous with his time, volunteering actively at his church and, more recently, with the Charleston Elks Lodge 242, where he formed many lasting friendships.
Robert was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his son, Robert (Robbie) Joseph Jeffries Jr., and his wife Colleen of Valdez, Alaska; his daughter Suzette Jeffries Timme and her husband Rear Admiral William Timme, USN (Ret.) of Arlington, Virginia; step-grandson Brendan Conners (wife Jen) of Stevensville, Montana, grandson Casey Jeffries (wife Becca) of Valdez, Alaska; granddaughter Anna-Grace Jeffries (husband Alex “AJ”) of Valdez, Alaska; Savannah Blaire Timme of Seattle, Washington; Morgan Brianne Timme of Wageningen, Netherlands; great-grandchildren Alaina Jeffries (daughter of Casey) and Aidan Conners (son of Brendan). He is also survived by his stepbrother Larry Williams of Louisville, Kentucky; niece Vicki Altizer; and nephews Randy Williams and Mike Williams.
He will be remembered for his thoughtful nature, his soft heart, sense of humor, and generosity. His quiet fortitude and deep loyalty made him a cherished friend to many, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and love. He will be missed terribly by his partner, Ethel Ann Jones.
Details regarding a memorial service and further reflections on Robert’s life will be shared by the family in the days ahead.
