Ruby Katherine Sweaney
Jul 2, 1969 — Sep 13, 2026
Ruby Katherine Sweaney, born July 2, 1969, passed away to be with the Lord at the young age of 57 on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
Ruby graduated from Garrett High School, Class of 1987. After a few years of finding herself and becoming a mother, Ruby began her career as an office manager at Clearview Auto Glass, where she faithfully dedicated 30 years of her life.
Small and mighty, and bursting with personality, Ruby always wore a smile on her face. She dedicated her life to her family and friends, always making sure everyone around her felt loved and cared for. Ruby enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports, watching them dance, spending time in the sun, and cooking.
To know Ruby was to know how deeply she loved. She had a way of making the people around her feel like family, and she never needed much of an excuse to show someone she cared. As a mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, she gave pieces of herself freely and asked for little in return. Her greatest joy was seeing the people she loved happy, and her greatest gift was the love she gave so effortlessly. Those who knew Ruby will remember her smile, her laughter, her strength, and the way she could make even ordinary moments feel special.
Ruby is survived by her son, Ricky (Megan) Sweaney; her parents, William and Margaret Hammer; her brothers, Mack (Lee Anne) Hammer and Dover (Cristy) Hammer; and her sisters, Karen Orr and Donna Harper. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Cannen Chomer, Dutten Sweaney, and Layke Sweaney.
Ruby was also deeply loved by her former mother-in-law, Betty Kersey, and her brother-in-law, Bill Jansson.
Ruby is also preceded in death by her former partner of almost 30 years, Jim Jansson.
Ruby’s memorial service will be held on Friday, September 25 at Portside Baptist Church, located at 1179 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM, with the service commencing at 11:00 AM.
Ruby’s legacy will live on through her son and grandchildren and will forever remain in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched.
