Thomas W Poston

Jan 20, 1945 — Oct 18, 2025

Thomas W. Poston of Cross, South Carolina, passed away peacefully after an extended illness. He was born in Florence, SC, on January 20, 1945, the son of the late Wilson B.Poston and Eleneta Burgess Poston.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Jean Poston. Surviving family members include his sisters Vonneta “Neakie” Grossman (Frank) of Ladson, SC, and Rachel Webb (Dale) of Kansas City, KS; and his late siblings Gloria Trotti of Dahlonega,GA, Jane McGee of Aiken, SC, Bobbie Jean Rains of Jacksonville, FL, Linda Thigpen of Florence, SC, George Trotti of GA, Mitchell Poston of West Columbia, SC, and Tom Trotti of Springfield, SC. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Tommy was a proud Gamecock fan who rarely missed a televised game, as well as Atlanta Braves and Falcons games. A talented guitarist, he once played in a country music band that performed in local clubs. He loved visiting with his favorite uncle, Eldon Poston, and his sister Vonneta—gatherings that often turned into hours of music, laughter, and joy. Tommy’s quick wit and love for his father made him a source of laughter for everyone around him.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Tommy served as a Specialist, loading gun ammunition onto tanks. After his military service, he worked as a delivery driver and drywall construction worker, taking great pride in his precision and attention to detail. He and his wife Jean enjoyed frequent visits to casinos and loved spending time together playing the slot machines.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Family Hospice of Charleston and to his niece, Tammy Infinger, for their devoted care and compassion during his final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held, with the date and time to be announced at a later date.
