Tina Worthington Chrise
Mar 28, 1968 — Jul 9, 2026
Tina Worthington Chrise
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Tina Worthington Chrise, who died on July 9, 2026, at the age of 58. She was born in Washington, DC on March 28, 1968, to Jack & Kathy Worthington, but the family moved to Summerville when Tina was just 6 months old. Her paternal grandparents were the late Carl Lee & Mary Ella Worthington of Beckley, West Virginia and the late Paul D. & Vivian I. Scarberry of Akron, Ohio who later retired in Summerville. Tina also leaves behind many wonderful aunts, uncles & a host of special cousins.
Tina began fishing at the age of 3 when her Papa Scarberry taught her about bait, casting & how to clean her own catch. She loved the river house he built on the Edisto and enjoyed her last trip there this past 4th of July as family and friends celebrated America’s 250th and Papa’s birthday.
She graduated from Summerville High School in 1986 & was proud to be a member of the marching band under director Gus Moody when they won the State Championship in her senior year. Tina loved the original Washington Redskins, the Gamecocks (despite her husband’s Clemson leanings) and race car driver Tony Stewart. She also was excited to drive her daddy’s new truck around a lap at Darlington racetrack.
She found great joy in the simple things that brought meaning to her life. She had a deep passion for animal welfare, enjoyed bird watching, fishing, loved solving mysteries, and treasured every moment spent with her family. Her gentle spirit, caring heart, and compassion for others and animals reflected in the beautiful person she was. It is comforting to know she will be reunited with her beloved dog, Romeo, who passed before her, but her current puppy, Charlie, will continue to feel the loss of the special bond they shared.
Tina was a loving, kind, and compassionate woman who cherished her family above all else. She was a devoted wife to Glenn D. Chrise Jr. The two married on October 11, 2014, at the river house, surrounded by family and friends, and shared a life filled with love, companionship, and support. She is also survived by son, Michael Paul Schumacher (Jenn), who blessed her with grandsons Mason & Colton; daughter, Mary Katherine Schumacher; younger sister, Jennifer Worthington Hilton (Jason) & niece Vivian. Tina also became a mother figure to her husband’s sons, Michael Gregory Chrise & Glenn Dale “Trey” Chrise, III. Trey is engaged to Ashlynn Sykes who also held a special place in Tina’s life. Tina will also be missed by her stepfather, Lawrence “Larry” Townsend (Kathy).
Though our hearts are broken by Tina’s passing, we find comfort in the love she gave so freely and the many lives she touched. We pray her kindness, sweetness and compassion for all living creatures will continue to live on through her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and will be announced by the family.
