William Dexter Loeble, Jr.

August 9, 1943 — May 30, 2026

William Dexter “Bill” Loeble Jr., of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on May 30, 2026. Born on August 9, 1943, in Troy, New York, Bill lived a life defined by faith, service, leadership, curiosity, and deep devotion to his family.

Bill is survived by Diane, his beloved wife of 60 years; his son, Dexter, and his wife, Jolie; his daughter, Janet; his grandchildren, William, Tony, Kimery, and Haylee; his great-grandchildren, Zaylan, Azi, and Azani; and his brother, Richard.

Family was the center of Bill’s life. For all his professional success, community leadership, travels, and years of service, he was most proud of the people he loved. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, and he found great joy in being present for his family, sharing stories, offering guidance, celebrating accomplishments, and creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

After graduating from Presbyterian College, Bill earned a Master of Science in Chemistry from the University of South Carolina. He then served in the United States Air Force Reserve at Shaw Air Force Base as a surgical technician and was honorably discharged after seven years with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Bill went on to build a remarkable career in industrial textiles that spanned more than 60 years. His career took him to all 50 states and 45 countries, and his research and development efforts contributed to two patents. Starting as a chemist, he advanced through management and corporate leadership, ultimately serving as Chief Operating Officer of Beaver Manufacturing Company. Under his leadership and through his work, the company grew from a plant in Mansfield, Georgia, to facilities in Mexico and Germany, becoming recognized as a world leader in its specialty, with an estimated 85% share of the U.S. market. Even after retiring more than a decade ago, Bill remained an active member of the company’s Board of Directors.

As impressive as his professional accomplishments were, Bill’s legacy of service was even greater. He gave generously of his time and leadership to his community, serving as president of the Kiwanis Club, chairing the Newton County Chamber of Commerce twice, and serving as president of the Arts Association. He was recognized with the R.O. Arnold Award, one of Newton County’s highest honors for community service.

Bill also remained deeply connected to Presbyterian College, serving on its Board of Trustees and later as trustee emeritus. His commitment to the college included support for the History Wing and the Crea Wing, reflecting his lifelong belief in education, service, and the responsibility to strengthen institutions that shape future generations.

Scouting was one of the great passions of Bill’s life. Earning his Eagle Scout as a youth, he devoted more than 70 years to Scouting through four local councils, the Order of the Arrow,

and national leadership. Among his many honors, Bill received the Silver Buffalo Award, Scouting America’s highest commendation for extraordinary service to youth. He was proud to be among fewer than 1,000 recipients since the award was created in 1925 and humbled by what it represented. Bill truly lived every part of the Scout Oath and Law and will be remembered as a dedicated mentor to youth and adult leaders alike.

Bill’s faith was central to who he was. He served as a deacon, elder, and liturgist in three Presbyterian churches, offering his gifts with humility and conviction. His faith was not simply something he professed; it was something he practiced through service, generosity, and the way he cared for others.

Bill will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, mentor, leader, and friend. He lived fully, traveled widely, served faithfully, and gave generously. His life reflected both the words he valued through Presbyterian College, Dum Vivimus Servimus - while we live, we serve - and the Order of the Arrow’s Brotherhood of Cheerful Service.

Following a private graveside service, the family will host a reception at the Forest Lake Club, 340 Country Club Drive, Columbia, SC 29206 on June 11, 2026, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friends, Scouters, colleagues, and all who loved and admired Bill are invited to gather with the family to share memories and celebrate his life. Scouts are encouraged to wear their uniforms if convenient.

A service will also be held at the Rodenberg Chapel at Franke at Seaside in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception for his friends in the Mount Pleasant community.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill’s honor to the Organ Fund at Palmetto Presbyterian Church. Bill loved the music of worship, and this gift would be a meaningful tribute to his faith and the joy he found in sacred music. Donations can be sent in Bill’s honor to:
