Heather Mara Gillespie

Nov 29, 1949 — Oct 4, 2026

Heather Mara Gillespie of Mount Pleasant passed into eternal life in Heaven on October 4, 2026, with her loving husband by her side.

Heather is survived by her husband John Michael Hardison; daughter Bridgette Jenkins Lott (Leon); granddaughter McKenzie Lott and sister Maureen Greenbaum (Duane). She was predeceased by her parents, Owen and Gloria Gillespie; brother Danie Gillespie; and sisters Marilyn Kelley and Janice Kelly.

She was happily married to her “Mikey” for 37 loving years. They wed in November 1988 after meeting three months prior. Heather always wanted her Mikey by her side and he was always there for her.

Heather was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter. She lived each day to the fullest, always bringing love and joy to those around her. She was a graduate of Roger’s High School in Rhode Island and Limestone College. A member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and long time choir member, Heather lived a life filled with passion for her family, her community, and wherever she could find beauty. She loved acting, singing, playing piano, and listening to music. One of her family’s fondest memories that they will always carry is of Heather singing and dancing to ABBA with her granddaughter, McKenzie. As a master gardener, Heather found joy in tending to beautiful things and helping them grow—just as she did with her loved ones. She was a proud member of a Navy family who lived in Cuba, Ireland and Rhode Island. She was also a breast cancer survivor.

Even in her illness, Heather knew that she was deeply loved by her family. That love surrounded her with brightness throughout her life and will remain with her in Heaven. Heather lived fully, loved deeply, and leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will continue to be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Heather’s ashes will be interred in the Columbarium at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Charleston, South Carolina. No services are planned at this time. Heather’s family invites those who wish to celebrate her life and the joy she brought to others to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.

May God rest her soul as she is reunited with her loved ones with a clear mind and pain free body.
