James L Robinson

James “Jim” Lee Robinson, 82, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

Jim was born on April 10, 1944, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He spent his early childhood in Garden Grove and Santa Ana, California, near his father’s family, before the family relocated to Ogallala, Nebraska, to be closer to his mother’s side. Jim thrived in the small-town atmosphere of Ogallala, eagerly playing whatever sport was in season. It was a football injury during these formative years that introduced him to the field of physical therapy, ultimately inspiring him to pursue physical therapy school in Colorado.

After practicing for a few years in Denver, Jim felt the pull of the South. He relocated to Charleston to join the faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) during the foundational years of its Physical Therapy program. Jim was a dedicated and active leader in his profession, serving as the Vice Chairman of the Orthopedic Section for the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and dedicating several terms as President of the South Carolina Chapter of the APTA. Outside of his professional achievements, Jim was a passionate, lifelong fan of the Nebraska Huskers.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Sherlock, brother, Paul Robinson and his beloved daughter, Amanda Robinson.

Jim’s legacy lives on through his devoted wife of 43 years, Carol; his sister, Joy Teel; his nephew, Cody Teel; his son, Ty Robinson (Jen); his daughter, Carrie Brunner (Chris); his son-in-law, Jhon Jairo Utrera-Garcia; and his three cherished grandsons, Cohen and Chandler Brunner, and Damien Utrera.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Crescent Hospice for their amazing and compassionate care of Jim.

A Celebration of Life will be held October 10, 2026, 11am, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1601 Sam Rittenberg BLVD, Charleston, SC 29407.
