Ruby Dosie
d. Feb 25, 2021
Ruby Morehead Orr Dosie, age 90, of Charleston, South Carolina passed peacefully on Thursday, February 25, 2021. Ruby was born in Irwinville, Georgia on January 6th, 1931, to the late Coatus Lee Morehead and Lois Hogan Morehead. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many.
Ruby is survived by her sister, Mary Garrett of Virginia and her brother, Johnny C. Morehead (Ann) of Irwinville, GA. She was preceded in death by two of her brothers, Jimmy Morehead and C.L. Morehead, Jr., and sister, Ruth Poole. She is survived by her son, John Arthur Orr, Jr (Mary Blair) of Charleston, SC, and daughter Mary Plunkett (Chad) of Alpharetta, GA and grandchildren John Arthur Orr, III, Ellie Plunkett and Ben Plunkett. Ruby was a loyal long-time member of Starrsville United Methodist Church in Covington, GA.
Ruby grew up on a peanut and tobacco plantation and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and went on to graduate from the University of Georgia. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing for friends and family. Her charming southern drawl always let you know exactly where you stood, whether you liked it or not, as she was not one to mince words. Always quick to help anyone in need, her heart of gold beat to her own drum to do the right thing regardless of who noticed. Ruby was a true force of nature.
In lieu of flowers, tributes may be made to Starrsville United Methodist Church, 2786 Dixie Road, Covington, GA 30014.
