Ruby Gail (Maynard) Livingston

Mrs. Ruby Gail (Maynard) Livingston, age 91, Of Charleston S.C. and formerly of Overton County, passed away on July 13, 2026.

Ruby is survived by her daughter Shelia (Terry) Ray of North Charleston SC, son Phillip Livingston of Cookeville TN, sister Sharon Reels of Cookeville TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren Joshua (Jessica) Ray of MT Pleasant SC, Kari (Tyler) Seay of Summerville SC, Tyler (Kristen) Livingston of Rickman TN, Grant (Megan) Livingston of Livingston TN, great grandchildren Emoire, Judah, Eliza, Esther Ray of MT Pleasant SC, Kendal, Carson, and Owen Seay of Summerville SC, Claire, Brooks, and Beckett Livingston of Rickman TN, Cannon, Nova Jean Livingston of Livingston TN.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James Livingston, her parents Paskel & Maxine Maynard, sisters Flo Reels & Reba Dennis, and brothers Junior & Lewis Kirby Maynard.

Ruby was born in Celina TN on April 26, !935. She attended elementary school in Algood, TN and as she grew, she became an in-home caregiver for children of working parents as her love of children would only grow throughout her life.

She was employed by Algood Dry Cleaners as a seamstress for several years. She then began work at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center as part of the laundry dept. She spent the next 25 years serving and assisting hospital personnel and patients with clean linen. She took great pride in her work as she knew this was an important part of patient care.

She and her late husband, James, loved to travel. They spent many summers traveling to Daytona Beach and visiting children and grandchildren in Charleston SC. Their self-described greatest adventure was flying to Hawaii with their good friends Charles and Ellen Kennedy. However, Ruby did not have to go far to enjoy some of their favorite things in life. They could be found at a good yard sale on a Saturday morning, or a gospel singing on a Saturday night, especially in Somerset KY. They also loved to support the Rickman basketball teams, spending most Friday nights at games, both home and away, with James driving the team bus while Ruby was doing the navigating.

Ruby loved God and was a long-time member of Oak Hill Methodist Church in Rickman TN. She served in the nursery and hospitality duties, and wherever she was needed.

Ruby loved her family with her whole being. After her husband's death in 2013, she moved to Charleston SC in 2014 to live with her daughter. There, she got to be present for several of her great grandchildren's births. Ruby's smile would light up a room as she held the children with the pride and love evident on her face. She would always say "Love isn't love until you give it away".

Ruby will always be remembered for her love of children, her love of God, and her strong desire to live a life full of praise and gratitude. The smile and joy she shared was a gift to all who knew her.
