Dr. Elisa McMillan Moskovitz, 72, affectionately known as “Misa” to her family and many friends, went to be with her Lord on December 21, 2025. Raised in Barnwell, SC, she graduated from Barnwell High School in 1972. She attended Winthrop University where she received a Bachelor of Music Education with emphasis in Piano and Choral Performance. She went on to attend the University of South Carolina and received a Doctor of Musical Arts with emphasis on Piano Pedagogy/Performance. She dedicated her life to music education, piano performance and church work. She taught music in the Lexington County School System and also was an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina for many years. She also worked as the Coordinator of Music for the Tri-District Arts Consortium in Columbia, SC. She was a concert pianist and performed in South Carolina and surrounding areas as part of a variety of performance groups as well as individually to include her hometown of Barnwell, SC. She played the organ and directed the choir at The Church of the Redeemer in Orangeburg, SC for the past eighteen years. She was a long-time resident of Columbia, SC.
Elisa was an avid golfer and played and was a member of Mid Carolina Golf Club where she had many close friends and golf competitors and competed in many tournaments. She enjoyed playing and listening to her beloved classical music. She was passionate about prevention of cruelty to animals and was an avid supporter of the Humane Society of South Carolina. She dearly loved her kitty and companion, Yum Yum. She was also an avid cook, and enjoyed preparing meals for friends and neighbors.
Elisa is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Thomas S. and Clara G. McMillan; her maternal grandparents, Gilbert H. and Helen M. Axford; and her parents, William G. And Elizabeth A. McMillan. She is survived by her brother, William G. McMillan, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Dandridge, TN, and their sons, Ryan G. McMillan (Sarah) of Greeneville, TN, and Steven L. McMillan (Natalie) of Murfreesboro, TN. She was very close to her family, including her aunts, uncles and cousins.
Receiving of friends will begin on January 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM at The Church of The Redeemer, 1606 Russell Street, Orangeburg, SC 29115. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM with Rector John Burwell officiating.
If desired, memorial contributions may be in lieu of flowers, to the Columbia Animal Shelter, Columbia, SC, or the Humane Society of South Carolina.
