Eugene Oliver Houser

Jun 7, 1955 — Nov 12, 2025

"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will live as one." -- Imagine - John Lennon

Born on June 7, 1955, Eugene was a lifelong South Carolinian whose early years were shaped in Camden. He attended Camden Elementary School and graduated from Camden High School before continuing his education at Midlands Technical College.

His professional journey began with Dupont in Lugoff, SC, where he laid the foundation for a career that would evolve into his role as a Computer Assisted Draftsman in the engineering field.

As a young man, Eugene had a passion for dirt bikes, and then for his Yamaha VMax motorcycle, which was his pride and joy.

Those who knew him appreciated Eugene's beautiful smile, brave heart, thoughtful nature, honesty, and intelligence, and his true and abiding love for his wife, Patty. During their nearly 20-year relationship and 10-year marriage, Eugene and Patty made several trips together to Lake Champlain in northern New York and Canada. Until his illness made it impossible, he was always working on a project at their farm in Lexington, where he finally found the home of his heart. Eugene warmly embraced his role as 'Grampy' to Patty's five grandchildren, and he was dearly loved and appreciated by her children, his sisters and brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins through Patty's family.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Patty L. Kennedy, and his twin sister, Virginia Houser, of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his father, Dorus Oliver Houser, and his mother, Gladys Virginia (Cato) Houser.

A remembrance of Eugene's life will be held on a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the ASPCA.

May Eugene's memory bring comfort and smiles to those who knew him.
