George Ronald Padgett

George Ronald “Ronny” Padgett was called home on March 24, 2026, at William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Columbia, SC.

Ronny was born to Johnny Melvin Padgett Jr., (deceased) and Nellie Ray Padgett (Hughes), (deceased) on December 8, 1955, in Columbia, South Carolina. Ronny Padgett was a dedicated and dependable individual with strong family values. He served in the United States Army from 1976 to 1979 and took pride in his commitment to his country.

After his military service, he applied his skills as an electrician and became known for his talent in building and working with power tools. Ronny worked in towing and repossession for 23 years in West Columbia, South Carolina, where he helped develop the first wrecker in the state capable of hauling 18-wheelers. He was always willing to help others and was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back. Above all, he was a strong provider who did his best to raise his children right.

Ronny enjoyed the simple things in life - fishing, football, and having a cold beer. He also enjoyed shooting pool and spending time perfecting his craft, always taking pride in a job well done. More than anything, he loved spending time at family gatherings and being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He had a deep love for his children and grandchildren and believed strongly in taking care of family. He was a man who showed love through actions more than words and will be remembered for his generosity and big heart.

Ronny was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Melvin Padgett Jr., mother, Nellie Ray Padgett (Hughes), brother, Oral Mazon Padgett (“PeeWee”), sisters, Tommie Elizabeth Haselton and Nancy Padgett.

Ronny left a lasting impact on those he helped and raised, and his values of family, service, and loyalty will carry on through his children and grandchildren.

Ronny’s memory will be lived on through family he loves so dearly, sons; Kristopher C. Whitaker and Dalton K. Padgett (Samantha R. Padgett); daughter, Angela D. Padgett, Grandsons; Weston K. Padgett, Owen J. Padgett, Nick Owens, brothers; Robert M. (Bert) Padgett, Johnny Padgett, Curtis D. Padgett, sisters; Erma Inez Stroud, Melody Elders, Julie Martin (“Sunshine”) and Brandon D. Martin, whom he loved as a son.
