Jimmie Donald "Donnie" Hughes

Jimmie Donald "Donnie" Hughes, 78, of Lexington, SC, went peacefully to be with the Lord on August 14, 2026.

Born in Anderson, SC, on December 30, 1947. He was the son of the late Evelyn Olivia Lowe Hughes and Charles Bryant Hughes. He was the identical twin of his late brother, Jackie Ronald "Ronnie" Hughes. Donnie loved all animals, especially Casper, Rascal and Spanky who were waiting for him at Rainbow Bridge.

Donnie is survived by his wife of 29 years, Nancy Hughes, his children, Stacey Fontenot (Jamie), Sonya McKenney (Scott), Tonya Dunn (Darrell) and Jimmie Donald Hughes Jr (Clair) his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Christian Dell Kohus (Josh), Jackoby, Vayda, Haylee, Brandon, Peyton, Hayden and many grand fur-babies that he loved dearly.

Donnie knew and loved the Lord. He was a faithful member of Kittiwake Baptist Church and played on the Kittiwake Ambassadors softball team for many years and loved playing basketball in his younger years. If there was a sport on TV Donnie was watching it. He was known for his kind heart, quiet strength, sense of humor and love for his family. As a professional artist, his work was a testament to his love for art, nature and photography. He placed first in duck stamps and two trout stamp competitions. He was in the Army Reserves from 1970 -1976. He also had a double black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

His infectious laughter and loving spirit brightened the lives of all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Donnie's life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 420 Kittiwake Baptist Church, 420 Kitti Wake Drive, West Columbia, SC 29170. Visitation will be at noon with a celebration service at 1pm. The family invites all who knew him to attend.
