Mark Daniel Smith

Mark Daniel Smith, 66, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away October 21, 2026, at MUSC Downtown Columbia, Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on March 29, 1960, in Augusta, Georgia to Orville and Mary (Moser) Smith.

Mark worked for USC as a curator at McKissick Museum. He loved to interact with people and tell them of the history of the college. Mark is remembered by his loved ones for his kindness, humor and joyous spirit. He loved history, old horror movies, decorating for the holidays, a good round of golf, a nice fire in the fireplace on a cold night. He will be forever loved and forever missed.

Mark is survived by his wife, Carol Smith, sister, Jennifer Wilson, daughter, Madison Cuartras, stepchildren, Michael Kacprowicz, Rex Kacprowicz, and Wendy DeWitt.

A memorial will be held at a later date.
