Richard Thompson Blaney, 79, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026 surrounded by love. Richard lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and humility, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Born on November 9, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA, Rick was the beloved son of John and Pearl Blaney. He grew up in Pittsburgh and went on to build a life in Columbia, SC. He proudly served in the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his life in profound and lasting ways and deepened his understanding of courage, sacrifice, and humanity.

Rick was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend whose life was defined by loyalty, intelligence, and kindness. A naturally patient and caring man, he was often the person others turned to for guidance and support. He had a good-humored spirit, loved to laugh, and made friends everywhere he went.

Rick is survived by his wife, Ann Anrrich, his daughter, Catherine Blaney Wallace, and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

Rick was proud of his family and treasured time spent with those he loved. He enjoyed golfing, cooking, reading, writing, studying history, and traveling. He especially loved traveling to Ireland where he enjoyed its people, and its culture. Curious and thoughtful by nature, he never missed an opportunity to meet new people and hear their stories.

A gifted writer, Rick authored several books and short stories, reflecting both his creativity and his love of storytelling.

Richard Thompson Blaney will be remembered always for his love of the people closest to him, his service to his country, and the countless lives he touched over his 79 years.
