Her Story
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Revelation 21:4
Our beloved Shamekia Treniece Day was born on March 25, 1978 In Miami, Florida to Sharon Benson, and the late Milton Harrell III.
During her younger years she lived in Germany for eight years where she became fluent in the native language. In 1986, she and her family came back to the United States beginning another important chapter in her life, where she attended Air Base Elementary School & later Centennial Middle School.
Shamekia had a passion for reading books and was known for the little things that brought her joy - including twirling the plastic from bread bags around her fingers, a funny but memorable habit her family will always remember. Her favorite color was purple. She had a deep love for cooking , which she passed down to her family, teaching them many of the dishes and recipes that will continue to keep her memory alive through future generations. She had a strong love for music and performing karaoke with her family during gatherings . Oldies and Goldies were her favorites, she could always be counted on to bring her personality and love of music to family celebrations.
As she entered adulthood, she began a new chapter in her life and was blessed with marriage. On January 10, 2008, she married the love of her life Marcellus Day and together they built a life centered around family, grounded in love, respect, and mutual devotion that shaped her into the woman and mother her family knew and loved.
She will be remembered for her love of family, cooking, music, reading, and all the little things that made her uniquely herself. Her memories, traditions, laughter and the lessons she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who loved her.

A Letter From Your Husband
My love, from the day we met , I knew that my life was complete with you. You gave me everything a man could ask for in a woman and a wife. For 20 years, we shared a love and a life filled with memories that I will carry with me forever .
As you continue your journey, I pray that you rest peacefully, free from pain and suffering. You will always be my one and only and nothing will ever change the love I have for you.
There is so much more I want to say, but after 20 years together, some feelings are simply too deep for words. Just know that I will always love you now, always, and forever.
Your little short black man.
