Mattie Lee Martin

Mattie Lee Martin has passed away in her home on June 11th, 2026 at the age of 93

Mattie was born the youngest of seven children on April 11th, 1933 to parents Azon and Mattie Montgomery in Laurens, South Carolina. While growing up in Laurens Mattie met her husband of 61 years Vannoy, the two of them built a life together and eventually moved their family to Minnesota, remaining committed to each other until Vannoy passed away in 2015. Mattie enjoyed her work as a Dietary Supervisor for many years at the Sholom Home and was an avid member of her church, participating in bible study and the church choir, devoting her life to her family, her work, and to God. She will be dearly missed by her family and the members of her church.

Mattie was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 63 years.

Mattie is preceded in death by her husband Vannoy, parents Azon and Mattie, and siblings Willy, Nathaniel, John, Azon, Rebecca, and Sister. She is survived by her son Alonzo, and a host of nieces and nephews, as well as great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews all across the country from New York to Baltimore to South Carolina.

Mattie will be buried with her husband at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
