Steven C. Wright

Steve Wright passed away on June 11, 2026 at home in Springfield, Oregon in the care of loved ones, after battling liver cancer for nearly four months. He was a beloved son, eldest brother, faithful husband, dedicated father of two daughters, and doting grandfather of four. He enjoyed simple pleasures such as the peace of the woods, a hot cup of tea, and watching his grandchildren play.

Steve was born May 29, 1951 to Arlene and Merton “Pete” Wright in Roseburg, Oregon. He was the first born of three children and grew up in Oregon and Northern California. He graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1969. He entered the Army in 1970, and served in Germany and Vietnam. After the Army, Steve started a career in logging. He married his wife of 46 years, Sue, in 1979. They had two daughters, Brittany and Danielle.

Spending all of his working life in the woods, he held nearly every position from choker setter to foreman, timber faller to layout. He didn’t become idle when his body required him to retire from the woods though. Steve volunteered in his wife’s Kindergarten classroom, spent time with grandkids, took more pleasure in gardening and other hobbies like hiking and biking, took off in his motorhome for the coast or the mountains, and most recently volunteered with Willamalane Parks and Recreation.

Steve was preceded in death by his father Merton “Pete” Wright. He is survived by his mother Arlene, siblings Sue and Alan, wife Sue, daughter Brittany (Fred Mortensen) and their children Hunter and Avery, and daughter Danielle (Monty Smith) and their children Paisley and Ranger. Steve was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his loved ones. He will be cremated and his ashes spread at his requested spot in the woods. A gathering will be held in his honor on Sunday, June 28th, 2026 from 2 - 4pm at the Mortensen home, 34103 Adler Lane Creswell, OR 97426.
