Alan Ulch
November 28, 1937 — May 2, 2026
Alan Ulch, 88, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at Good Shepard/Forsythe Hospice House in Auburndale, FL. Born on November 28, 1937, in McClure, Ohio, Alan lived a life marked by hard work, entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for unique hobbies.
Alan moved his family to Winter Haven in 1970 from Waterville, Ohio. In 1971, Alan was approached by Haven Federal to build VA homes, an opportunity that led him to establish his own construction company, Alan L. Ulch Inc. Through his dedication to quality and attention to detail, Alan built a company with an outstanding reputation. By 1974, he expanded into the commercial market, constructing restaurants for well-known chains such as Ponderosa, Burger King, and Steak & Shake. In the mid 80’s, Alan turned his focus to remodeling and building homes in the historic Mountain Lake Community. Over the years, his craftsmanship earned him numerous accolades, including recognition from the American Institute of Architects.
Alan’s life was not solely defined by his professional achievements; he also embraced a variety of hobbies that reflected his adventurous and curious nature. He enjoyed buying and selling items of interest, air boating across Kissimmee River Chain of Lakes, traveling in his Prevost motorcoach, caring for exotic animals, and playing golf.
Alan was committed to his family. He is survived by his children: Tami (Richard) Steed and Kari (Scott) Hendrickson; three grandchildren: Jordan (Bradford) Davies, Elijah (Kayla) Hendrickson, and Samuel Hendrickson; one great-grandchild: Penelope Hendrickson; and his brother Curt & Becky Ulch of Winter Haven; Jackie Marie Ulch of Clermont; and blessed with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary Lou Ulch; his brother Jackie Neil Ulch; and his parents Roland and Leah Ulch.
Alan’s legacy lives on through the structures he built with care and precision and through the memories cherished by those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing. A visitation will be held from 9 to10 am followed by a Celebration of Life beginning at 10 Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Redeemer Winter Haven 1410 Dundee Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Good Shepherd/Forsythe Hospice House, 450 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823 or online at https://www.chaptershealth.org/chapters-health-foundation/good-shepherd-hospice-donation/
