                                            George V "Peter" Hoverkamp (1937-2025)

George Vanbrundt “Peter” Hoverkamp, 88, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, surrounded by his family. Peter was born Feb. 9, 1937, in Staten Island, New York, to Audrey Smith and George V. Hoverkamp Sr. From an early age, he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family. After completing his primary and secondary education, Peter earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wagner College in New York. While attending college, he met the love of his life, Christel Krankemann, and the two were married Oct. 9, 1960. Together, they raised three children and built a loving home - no matter where in the world life took them - filled with laughter, faith and unwavering support. Peter proudly served his country in the Strategic Air Command of the United States Air Force during the Cold War. Following his military service, Peter began a long and successful career with Mobil Oil Corp., now Exxon Mobil Corp. He was hired as an intern and, through hard work and dedication, rose through the ranks to become a corporate executive. After more than 35 years with the company, Peter retired in 1995 and settled in Winter Haven, Florida, with Christel by his side. In retirement, Peter and Christel wrote books about their lives, including Executive Moves and Marianne Hofmann. Known for his quick wit, kind heart and quiet generosity, Peter was a devoted family man who cherished cooking Saturday morning breakfasts at home and hosting weekend dinners with loved ones. He enjoyed snow skiing, tennis, baseball and boating, which he spent more than 50 years mastering. Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Christel Elizabeth Hoverkamp; his children, George V. Hoverkamp (Joy), Christopher M. Hoverkamp (Jackie) and Heidi Hoverkamp Gleixner (Aaron); his eight grandchildren; his 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. A service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1991 Overlook Drive, Winter Haven, FL.

The service will be followed by a Celebration of Life from noon to 2 p.m. at the Cypresswood Golf and Country Club Clubhouse, 1099 Clubhouse Road, Winter Haven, FL. Family and friends are invited to attend the service and the Celebration of Life to honor and remember Peter. Peter will be missed but forever remembered for the love he gave and instilled in the lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
